Gordon is married to Sybil and they have three children and seven grandchildren. Gordon and Sybil come from Motherwell and served with Elim International Missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo for 17 years before moving in 1999 to Nyangombe in the North Western Province of Zambia on the border with Angola and DRC.
Nyangombe Christian Training Centre in Mwinilunga District of Zambia is the only Bible Teaching and Christian Youth Training Institute in over 100,000 square kilometres. Our vision is to present Christ to the Lunda people of this area so that they can come to an understanding of the abundant, fear free life made available in Christ Jesus and live as strong Christians within their own culture.
Over the years various arms of ministry have been birthed through which an effective proclamation of the Gospel is made. Children’s Camps, Youth Camps, Bible Schools for Pastors and leaders, Skills Training in Carpentry, Building, Dressmaking and Design, Agriculture, Computer IT, Medical Work, Nutrition Programs, HIV/AIDs Training and a host of other arms of ministry to the Lunda people extend outwards from Nyangombe. All ministries have a clear Christian focus and we pray and work towards young men and women learning skills for life so that they can use their acquired skill to feed their families. We praise the Lord for the high percentage who have left here and who use their skills to communicate their faith in a hostile world. Annually over 3,000 people pass through Nyangombe and many are built up in their faith through the varied programs run.
The ministries emanating out from Nyangombe influence many thousands of Christians and Churches in North West Zambia, South West DRC, and Southern Angola as witchcraft is confronted and the power of the Holy Spirit of God is revealed in power seeing many released from fear & built up in their faith to increasingly trust the Lord Jesus.
We are constantly aware that only by adopting a Christian lifestyle, empowered by the Holy Spirit, can truly bring the lifestyle change necessary to stem the 'fall out' from AIDS. The Bible School has links with and influence over many hundreds of churches in Zambia, DRC and Angola and has teaching and leadership training input over a vast geographical area. Evangelists and Church Planters go out into the remotest parts of rural Africa where churches are pioneered, established and built up. The challenges amongst the Lunda people are ongoing as, together with gifted local men and women, we tackle head on the spiritual strongholds of witchcraft and evil practices entrenched within a culture for hundreds of years.
Whatever has been achieved in the past is behind us, as the great apostle once said, and we now look forward, straining towards what lies ahead that we might see many more transformed lives and the Lord Jesus loved & honoured amongst the Lunda people.
Dear friends and supporters,
2022 has flown by and we apologise for not keeping you better informed on a more regular basis. It seems that the weeks simply merged into each other and before we realised, yet another month had slipped into eternity! This Newsletter is very 'practical' but that is how life really is in the African bush. We cannot call on specialists to help with plumbing, electrics, building or water pumps and systems and so much time is invested into problems as they arise and are overcome. At this very special time of year, when we remember the coming of the Christ Child, we marvel again at God's goodness to mankind in providing for us a Saviour and the Light of this world. We pray too that the New Year will bring you great blessing to you and yours.God blessGordon
